Security lapse: A boy allegedly robbed by neighbors.

By Simon Saitoti

The night of Monday the 13th  this month, Isinya residents were awakened by a cry of someone in dire need of help. Residents rushed to Kisaju town to the surrounding neighborhood from which the wail emanated from. Just before people arrived at the scene, two men ran past and a motorcycle followed them shortly. The residents tried to follow them but they soon vanished in thin air of the dark night.

Later, people returned to the scene only to find a boy who had been the victim of robbery. His trousers were torn and wore a vest only despite the chilly night hour.

“They took my wallet, ripped off my shirt and beat me up,” said the victimized boy, Lemayian Kiranto.

One of the people, already at the scene alleged that the boy had boarded a motorcycle in Kisaju town alongside another man who turned out to be his neighbor. It is suspected that the boy had been attacked by the people he had boarded the motorcycle with.

“Lemayian must have been robbed by cyclists on that motorcycle but it is ironic since they are his neighbors,” said the eye witness.

This vicious act happens at a time when the president ;Uhuru Kenyatta has been urging Kenyans to embrace the nyumba kumi initiative. This has been in the bid to improve security in the country starting from the grassroots level. However, in such a situation, many questions arise on how effective the nyumba kumi initiative will be.

Fare hike as schools re-open

By Simon Saitoti
Matatu and bus fares has increased drastically as pupils and students resume their learning ahead of the first term for the New Year. Public transport shortage has been noted in some parts of the country as many people return back after the festive season. This has also been due to the resumption of students to school resulting too many people seeking transport to various points.
Touts for both matatus and buses have taken this as an advantage to sky-rocket their fares to get extra earnings in their businesses. However, parents and guardians have amicably complained and termed this act as inconsiderate of the challenge they are facing already of raising school fees and other expenses. “It’s too unfortunate that fare has gone up at a time we as parents are struggling to get school fees for our children,” says Mrs. Mary Wahome, a business woman in Kitengela.
On the other hand drivers and touts have tremendously supported their actions. Just like any other business, this is a period when their business thrives and they should not overlook such an opportunity. “After school reopens, people travelling will be very few and this sometimes results to a loss in our business so we are forced to hike the fares at a time like this to cover up for such times,” says Wawesh, a matatu tout operating from Kitengela to Isinya and Kajiado.

Jubilation at fifty

By Monica Soila
Splendor and colour characterized this year’s jamhuri day celebrations on 12th December 2013.It was mostly important because Kenya was celebrating her golden jubilee.

Isinya sub-county was no exception. Everyone put their best foot forward on this historic day; as they chanted “happy birthday Kenya”. At the celebration venue, Multipurpose centre, not even the heavy downpour could deter the big crowd from attending the event. It was a sign of blessing, as many would put it.

The police had prepared a guard of honour, for the assistant county commissioner; who was the most prominent guest.

Different groups had also presentations for entertainment purposes. Leaders from all over the sub-county were in attendance and were given chances to address the people.

A minute of silence was observed for the fallen legend, Nelson Mandela, after which the guest of honour, the assistant county commissioner, Mr. Hassan Bulle, delivered the presidential speech. He afterwards addressed the gathering. With his unmistakable sense of humour, he passionately encouraged people to work hard and co-exist peacefully and in harmony.
“Our different ethnic backgrounds make us all unique, and this is what brings about the developments that you can see in our area”, he said.
“Kajiado County, for the second year running, is the richest in the country. This is because it is such a cosmopolitan”, he added.
This festive season has truly been an awesome one for Kenya. Taking a moment to forget about the daily struggles and just be in the mood to celebrate this beautiful nation that is Kenya; a sense of unity.
