Security lapse: A boy allegedly robbed by neighbors.

By Simon Saitoti

The night of Monday the 13th  this month, Isinya residents were awakened by a cry of someone in dire need of help. Residents rushed to Kisaju town to the surrounding neighborhood from which the wail emanated from. Just before people arrived at the scene, two men ran past and a motorcycle followed them shortly. The residents tried to follow them but they soon vanished in thin air of the dark night.

Later, people returned to the scene only to find a boy who had been the victim of robbery. His trousers were torn and wore a vest only despite the chilly night hour.

“They took my wallet, ripped off my shirt and beat me up,” said the victimized boy, Lemayian Kiranto.

One of the people, already at the scene alleged that the boy had boarded a motorcycle in Kisaju town alongside another man who turned out to be his neighbor. It is suspected that the boy had been attacked by the people he had boarded the motorcycle with.

“Lemayian must have been robbed by cyclists on that motorcycle but it is ironic since they are his neighbors,” said the eye witness.

This vicious act happens at a time when the president ;Uhuru Kenyatta has been urging Kenyans to embrace the nyumba kumi initiative. This has been in the bid to improve security in the country starting from the grassroots level. However, in such a situation, many questions arise on how effective the nyumba kumi initiative will be.
